Growing up between the eclectic record collection of my dad had a big impact on my understanding of music besides getting to know very early how to correctly touch a vinyl record.
As records of western origin (mainly British and American Beat, Jazz and Blues) were tough go get in GDR times, most of my fathers records have a personal story beside the actual recorded music.
When I started buying records as a teenager, simultaneously starting a reggae band, stories and the songs were always more important to me than the rarity or the price of the record.
Hanging around with the local mods, skinheads, punks and hiphop scene made me dig deeper into reggae and soul trying to join the dots. so I started doing own events as Upon My Soul!
One of my first guests were Henning and Emel, who started around the same time with their own events. Our paths crossed quite often, especially when I lived in Zurich for 2 years. Thanks to them a lot of my records have a story that is connected to the Swiss family. Since then I was fortunate to have been invited by lovely likeminded people and to be able to travel with my records to places in and around Germany, Italy, England, Poland and of course the Swiss family’s NOT TOO YOUNG. I am really looking forward coming back the shore of the alps for a last waltz on Vierwaldstätter see.
