I am really honored to participate in the final (so they say.. let’s see if they change their mind!!!) NOT TOO YOUNG Swiss Soul Weekender. I have heard nothing but good things about it and it will be my first time DJing in Switzerland, I’m looking forward to it!
I arrived at the Soul scene through Modernism, where I started in 1984 (yes, despite my youngish looks, I am that old…).
Kent compilations had a huge impact in the Spanish Mod scene and they turned me into a Soul nutter (it’s all your fault, Ady!!!). Since the late 80s I have been involved in promotion, DJing, dancing and all sort of non-sense, I will save you the events list, it is too long!!!, just to say that my main “venture” right now is the SHING A LING Allnighter check the IG page at @shing_a_ling_northern_soul, it is held at the Valencia Casino, Spain, and the next edition is on April 25th, you’re all welcome!
When I DJ I try to build “something that makes sense”, to me the record changes need to “have a direction”; I am not interested in biggies, or “just-for-today” sounds, I feel that a DJ needs to take a personal road, and in my case it is rare 60s, mainly focused on R&S, New Orleans, early, girlie & soulful harmonies, with a bit of blue-eyed oddities.
